#BatangasBayanihan: Severe Tropical Storm Kristine Response in Batangas
Overview of the Situation
Severe Tropical Storm Kristine, which recently impacted the province of Batangas, displaced nearly 13,000 families, affecting over 44,000 individuals. As of October 27, 2024, 56 lives have been lost, with 17 still missing, and thousands of homes severely damaged. Currently, 116 evacuation centers house over 4,000 families, while many others are seeking shelter outside official centers.
Ongoing Relief Efforts
The Archdiocese of Lipa, through the Lipa Archdiocesan Social Action Commission (LASAC), continues its dedicated response, coordinating aid with local parishes and community partners. Support includes vital items like water, food, and hygiene kits, provided to the most affected areas of Agoncillo and Laurel.
In addition, Archbishop Gilbert A. Garcera has reached out for nationwide support to help rebuild lives affected by this disaster. So far, 350 families in various evacuation centers have received over PHP 104,000 worth of emergency aid. With the combined efforts of the church and community, a total of PHP 473,397.75 in humanitarian aid has been distributed.
Community Collaboration and Contributions
The response efforts have been enhanced by a broad network of supporters, including 65 parishes, various youth and church organizations, and local businesses, demonstrating the strength of community solidarity during crisis.
As of October 28, donations have amounted to PHP 688,409.63, with additional in-kind contributions valued at over PHP 564,000. Contributions are still essential to meet the ongoing needs, such as food, water, clothing, and medical supplies.
