From September 25 to 27, 2023, the picturesque town of Boac, Marinduque, played host to the annual Southern Tagalog Secretariat for Social Action (STASSA) assembly. The Diocese of Boac warmly welcomed delegates from various dioceses with the captivating Moriones Festival and the traditional "Putong" ceremony. This three-day gathering was not only an opportunity for reflection and prayer but also a platform for sharing best practices, fostering unity, and planning for future initiatives. The theme for this year's 'Everything in Common' set the tone for a meaningful and transformative event.

A Spiritual Beginning

The STASSA assembly commenced with a solemn mass celebrated by Most Rev. Marcelino Antonio 'Bishop Junie' M. Maralit Jr., emphasizing the importance of coming together in the spirit of social action. The theme's reflection, led by Rev. Fr. Ian Retardo, encouraged participants to explore the idea of sharing and solidarity in the pursuit of social justice.

Showcasing Best Practices

The Social Action Commission of the Diocese of Boac took the opportunity to showcase their best practices. Delegates had the chance to visit the SAC Boac Food Processing facility, the Ringo Curls, and Butterfly Farm in Cawit. This gave attendees a firsthand look at successful initiatives and how local communities were being positively impacted.

Building Solidarity

The STASSA assembly was not just about business and reflection; it was also a time for delegates to build relationships and solidarity. A Solidarity Night was held, bringing together participants from different backgrounds, fostering camaraderie, and creating a supportive atmosphere for the shared mission of social action.

Workshops and Planning for the Future

The final day of the assembly focused on workshops, where delegates revisited their accomplishments, identified gaps in their programs, and discussed strategies for moving forward. This collaborative effort allowed the participants to learn from one another and set the stage for more effective and impactful social action initiatives.

After the closing mass, Rev. Fr. John Reynie O. Paraon, the newly appointed director of STASSA, made a heartfelt pledge commitment in front of the assembly and his predecessor, Rev. Fr. Jayson T. Siapco.

This commitment symbolized the continuity and dedication of the STASSA team to the cause of social action and the pursuit of 'Everything in Common'. The 2023 STASSA assembly in Boac, Marinduque, was a resounding success, bringing together individuals from diverse backgrounds to share best practices, reflect on the theme of 'Everything in Common' and plan for a more just and compassionate future. With the newly appointed director's commitment and the spirit of solidarity, the Southern Tagalog Secretariat for Social Action continues to be a beacon of hope and a catalyst for positive change in the region.
